We all know pregnancy is an exciting time but individuals and couples have to face many decisions regarding the future health and wellbeing of their unborn baby. NIPT uses advanced whole genome next generation sequencing technology to accurately inform you of the potential risk of a chromosomal condition which may affect your unborn baby.

NIPT directly measures the amount of cfDNA in maternal circulation and can detect small excesses in counts of a chromosome. It would give a high risk result of the fetus being affected with a Trisomy 13, 18 or 21 condition if an abnormality was detected. Each screening test has a detection rate DR and positive rate PR which indicates the performance of the screen.

The best performing test is the one which has the highest detection rate and the lowest positive rate. NIPT detects the most trisomy conditions and sends the fewest number of patients for invasive procedures which carry a risk of miscarriage. NIPT is dependent on the amount of cfDNA circulating in the maternal bloodstream, sometimes there is not enough to give a valid result. In these cases another blood sample would be needed, at no extra cost.

NIPT is a screening test. A high risk result should be confirmed via an invasive diagnostic test such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus biopsy. NIPT can give gender information in singleton pregnancies optional. To help clients identify their needs easily we have divided our service offering into 4 key areas; baby, fertility, body and dna genetics. Many of the services have overlapping areas and our advisors will be happy to discuss your requirements.

The option to check for the sex of your offspring is also available as part of this screen. All our screening tests have optimum detection rates which exceed the NHS offering and in the first trimester we can also include pre-eclampsia screening. We also have a specific Jewish carrier screening test, Alef8, which screens 8 common conditions which are prevalent to the Ashkenazi Jewish population including Tay Sachs, Blooms Syndrome and Anemia Fanconi.

Background and study aims The implications of depression in the perinatal period are considerable for the well-being, safety and the development of the baby, with depression in mothers associated with adverse effects on child health. Antenatal depression is the main predictor of postnatal depression and women may be more depressed in late pregnancy than at any other perinatal time point. There are few studies of antenatal interventions to prevent postnatal depression and none to prevent depression assessed before childbirth. The purpose of the study will be to evaluate the feasibility, and effectiveness of training community mid wives CMWs in a psychological approach to prevent perinatal depression antenatally. Randomly selected CMWs will receive training on a psychological approach and will then subsequently deliver an enhanced delivery of care to consenting women on their caseload.

We welcome your views on our website and invite you to take part in a brief survey when you’ve finished your visit. A computerised tomography CT scan is a non-invasive medical test that can help look for signs of inflammation, disease or cancer, and monitor many other health conditions. It uses specialised X-ray equipment and a computer to create images of the inside of your body. A CT scan is a fast and highly effective tool to provide detailed, cross-sectional views of areas of the body that may be hard to reach. Bones, internal organs, soft tissue and the brain can all be viewed in detail on a CT scan to help diagnose inflammation, disease and cancer, and to monitor many other health conditions. Whereas a standard X-ray only sends out one beam to capture an image, during a CT scan several beams of X-ray are sent out at different angles. This creates a much more detailed picture in two or three dimensions. Your doctor may recommend you have a CT scan to examine your chest and abdomen.
