Dating in DC: What Affluent Professional Women Really Want

In , I made the decision to move back home to Arlington, thus beginning a journey of 15 first dates between the months of July to June From awkward encounters to tear-jerking credit card statements and literally being kissed without my permission by a married woman in front of her husband and my date, my experiences ran the gamut.

So what does a year of dating in D. Let me tell you! Fourteen of the 15 dates came from Tinder and JSwipe. I was never good at approaching women at bars, so this kind of dating suited me. I approached these apps with a very subtle strategy: The real work began when deciding whom to message. I became the lunchroom gossip each day, with other teachers living vicariously through my zany dates. My year of dating ended in June because I met the right woman. I am happily in a loving relationship that I would not trade for the world. The sheer amount of dates was not a source of pride.

This year was trying, funny, frustrating, but eventually fulfilling with the desired outcome of finding someone who hates the same things and people as I. By Brenna Rivett, Dating in the District blog author. When thinking about how I could reduce my carbon footprint in my social life, I realized that I spent a big part of it online dating! So, here are some suggestions — all tried by yours truly — for fun, environmentally conscious dates. Skip the Lyft ride and take public transportation to the date. Last fall, while walking around Shaw before my date, I stumbled upon a stationary store that took my colored pen obsession to a whole new level.
