4 Thoughts Women With Natural Hair Have When Dating Someone New

The media and pop culture have collectively shifted to celebrate curls in every form. This is ironic, considering the fact that women of color have been fighting for an equal playing field when it comes to hair since the beginning of time. The harsh reality is that women are still being subjected to microaggressions and discrimination in the workplace in school systems on a daily basis because of the way they choose to wear their hair. Just a few decades ago, the ideology America held in high regard was that straight hair was the single most beautiful hairstyle. This false notion contributed to the overuse of chemical relaxers and perms, which are treatments used to physically alter natural hair to become straight for long periods of time. It also flooded the minds of women of color with the belief that we needed to straighten our hair so we could have the same opportunities and be praised under the limiting societal standards of beauty the same way our white counterparts were.

Yes, it was. Shaved Head. White Male. Say that ten times fast. Other thresholds will come, and other questions with them. I felt it wise, at times, to judge men by their judgment of my hair. There were those who did wield it as a weapon to wound. But the most part, they were, at worst, entirely less concerned than I gave them credit for and, at best, the most reliable source of encouragement for which I could ever ask. Why did their simple curiosity put me so on edge? What could be sweeter?

Sometimes the other, there are written specifically, i lost much of.

Dating Interracially While Natural

My last relationship ended a few months after my two year natural hair anniversary. Lucky for him, he was with me long enough to see me with a variety of different hairstyles see photos of some of my hairstyles over the years. By a variety I mean short permed hair, a caesar, a TWA, and a growing fro. However you looked when they first met you is how they want you, everything else is deemed unnecessary. As for my ex, he loved my short permed mohawk especially when I had designs shaved in. After a bad perm and color I received at a modeling job my hair started to fall out, which led me to get a caesar. I loved my caesar and had no intention on growing it out, especially after I started getting waves and was playfully competing with my then boyfriend. After some reading and YouTube surfing I purchased an abundance of hair accessories, make up, and jewelry to doll me up. Safe to say he did not like my natural hair, and preferred my hair straight. What I do know for sure is that relationship is over and reading this through it was for the best. I want to completely love myself, my body, my hair, my style. Discover my likes and dislikes without any outside approval from a man of what I should be doing.

Dating While Natural: What’s The Real Deal?

Whether you’ve decided to do the big chop and get in formation with TeamNatural or you’ve been walking on the kinky side for decades, all naturalistas can agree that there are a lot of people that make assumptions about you based on your hair. While you are happy to be appreciated for who you are naturally, some people seem to have certain preconceived notions on you are as an individual. People see me and they assume all the wrongs things about me because I have locs so I know I’m not the only one this happens to. In the era where online dating is the norm and finding a date is just a swipe or like away, naturals are either celebrated or overlooked. In my personal experiences, I’ve encountered both; I’ve had men and women tell me that my hair is ugly or make fun of it and call it smelly and dirty without actually being around me – to them it just looked stank. On the opposite side of the spectrum, I’ve also been celebrated and complimented on my hair and while it’s refreshing to have men tell me that my hair is beautiful or even better, tell me I’m beautiful – I too have received my fair share of men that only are interested in me because of my hair. So here’s a list of the three types of men I consider natural hair fetishizers.

What Men Really Think About Natural Hair – Part 1

I eventually ask all of our newsletter subscribers the following question: One of our subscribers asked me to write about the following topic: Once upon a time, in a land far away, there was a newly married couple named Patrick and Keisha. Patrick truly loved his wife, and mutually Keisha loved Patrick. Throughout their childhoods, growing up, both had mostly been exposed to relaxed hair.

Dating is hard enough without having to field negative comments about your appearance from online trolls. Sadly, that’s exactly what one woman experienced earlier this week when a man criticized her gorgeous natural curls on a dating app. Her response to his unsolicited advice, however, was simply perfect. Reddit user YerBlues69, whose real name is Heather Steinberg, shows off her stunning curls proudly on her Plenty of Fish dating app profile. So when she received the following infuriating message from a man earlier this week, Steinberg wasn’t pleased:. She promptly replied to the jerk with a classy, simple phrase: I just had to share. It bothers me to no end that people think curlies would look better with straight hair.

I rather her not feel she needs to meet a certain criteria to please others and just be herself. I think I woudl go for a black girl based on her personality not on anything else. Good Luck, God Bless. Love your point of view. You’re right. I saw him today and nothing changed. He thinks I’m attractive regardless of hair style not the same as what I’ve experienced with most black guys.
