Marshall was founded by the respectively named Jim Marshall, who had over 20 years of experience gigging on the road around the UK and Europe before opening his first Marshall store in He sold a variety of musical instruments and started attracting young and upcoming talents, such as Richie Blackmore and Pete Townsend. A common request was asking for an amplifier, a new kind that would blow the competition out of the water and take the music industry to the next level. Jim accepted the task as his own.

I am now going to the use of 4 guitar amps, all hooked together somehow to utilize the power of all 4. I’ve seen it done a thousand times but I can’t find anyone who knows how to do it. If I buy 4 Fender Frontman r, how will I do it? Long ago, Fender amps used to have their inputs in parallel and could ‘daisy-chain’ like that.

Was THAT safe? And if I buy something other than Fender , what am I likely to face and how can I hook 4 together safely in the general case? I’m sorry to trouble you, but I know that someone knows this. And I can’t believe that guitarists have been using some kind of splitter box for the last 40 years. Thank you so much. Thu Jun 12, 3: Can you give examples of artists you know that use multiple amps in parallel?

I think you might be confusing speaker cabinets for entire amps. In huge venues like arenas what you are seeing is just one amp or one pre-amp and two power amps running into multiple cabinets. Post subject: Buying cabinet’s and a head or combo would be more affordable and easier unless you have a bunch of ‘s chilling. If we have 4 speakers, each with a 4 Ohm rating, using the above equation for our example gives: Most people put enclosures of the same impedance in a parallel circuit wiring separate enclosures in series is kind of a pain.

If you do this it’s all just a matter of dividing that impedance by the number of speakers. If you connect speakers of different impedances, the power output will be greater to some, less to others, which means some will be louder than others. Parallel law is the one you need to be most familiar with because when it comes to hooking-up cabinets to combos or heads it is almost always done in parallel. Make sure both cabinets are switched to Mono operation.

Since we’re hooking two 16 Ohm cabinets to our DSL head in parallel, let’s plug R1 16 and R2 also 16 into our trusty formula: Switch the amp on, plug in your axe, dial in a tone and rock!! Why would you do that anyway? A Marshall head and a pair of 4 X 12 cabinets all you need thats the stuff you see on stage. Just stand in front of a watt head and a few 4×12 cabs.

In fact most major artists who I see have multiple cabinets AND multiple heads. Well, four Fender twins have w which gives headroom over w even tho they’re Marshall watts.

And I think Fender sound more ‘neutral’. I think Marshall has its own sound, which is a wonderful sound, but not the one I want in this case. Good question. Thanks for all your info. Good show. i don’t know of any way to connect 2 amps together, as neither have an effects My friend uses this set up, with a fender valve, and an orange. The splitter will take the line in from your guitar, but provide two line outs, one to. A tech once told me that using two amps adds very little to the Makes the guitar sound really wide when I stomp it on. . that being said when i use 2 amps together i found that using one amp with a cleaner more OD setting ps-for playing live in bars i never run a stereo set up could not be bothered.

When you go see touring acts perform, you may notice that many pro players use two or more amps live.

Amps in this area of the market are becoming increasingly compact, too, with the lunchbox head phenomenon still very much in effect, although you’ll still find a few high-powered 2×12 combos and high-wattage heads among the ranks. Launch price:

I’m thinking of taking a y cable splitter from my electric guitar to two practice amps. Is that going to work? I don’t think it will work with just a split cable. One complication is ground loops, which cause hum. Voodoo Labs , having both amps plugged into the same power outlet etc.

A guitar amplifier or amp is an electronic device or system that strengthens the weak electrical signal from a pickup on an electric guitar , bass guitar , or acoustic guitar so that it can produce sound through one or more loudspeakers , which are typically housed in a wooden cabinet. A guitar amplifier may be a standalone wood or metal cabinet that contains only the power amplifier and preamplifier circuits, requiring the use of a separate speaker cabinet—or it may be a “combo” amplifier, which contains both the amplifier and one or more speakers in a wooden cabinet. Guitar amplifiers can also modify the instrument’s tone by emphasizing or de-emphasizing certain frequencies, using equalizer controls, which function the same way as the bass and treble knobs on a home hi-fi stereo, and by adding electronic effects ; distortion also called “overdrive” and reverb are commonly available as built-in features. For electric guitar players, their choice of guitar amp and the settings they use on the amplifier are a key part of their signature tone or sound. Some guitar players are longtime users of a specific amp brand or model. Guitarists may also use external effects pedals to alter the sound of their tone before the signal reaches the amplifier. In the s, it was very hard for a musician playing a pickup-equipped guitar to find an amplifier and speaker to make their instrument louder as the only speakers that could be bought were “radio horns of limited frequency range and low acoustic output”. The cone speaker, widely used in s-era amp cabinets, was not offered for sale until The first amplifiers and speakers could only be powered with large batteries, which made them heavy and hard to carry around. When engineers developed the first AC mains -powered amplifiers, they were soon used to make musical instruments louder.

Hooking up a bass head to a bass cabinet, or group of cabinets, is often a confusing topic. Most of us musicians just want to play music. But, this is the price we pay for playing electric instruments.

You have two amps and you like them both for different reasons. If you want to use two amps simultaneously, there are some things you need to know before you flip on those power switches. One of the reasons this happens is due to ground hum. Though it will lift the ground and get rid of the hum, you might get the shock of your life if you touch your lips to a microphone onstage while playing your guitar. Being the recipient of a shock due to improper grounding feels about as good as receiving a squarely landed hook from a heavyweight champion. I learned this lesson the hard way! So how do you safely use two amps without getting ground hum? My favorite way to play through a pair of amps is via a Lehle Little Dual which is a dual-mono box. And if a delay is set to, say, ms, both amps will repeat at ms, etc.

Playing the electric guitar is a fulfilling hobby that requires time, patience, and dedication to master. Amplifiers are the piece of equipment that allows you to make sound with your electric guitar. While many traditional amps come with two pieces of equipment called the head and cabinet, combo amps have both technologies contained in one easy-to-use piece of equipment. Both methods are fairly simple and user-friendly to do. This article was co-authored by our trained team of editors and researchers who validated it for accuracy and comprehensiveness.

How do I connect two amps together. Thread Tools Subscribe to this Thread…. Join Date Dec Posts I found myself in the guitar shop over the weekend and remembered reading the Jazz guitar Amps section here when I saw some Roland cube amps. Despite having gone to town to buy things that couldn’t have been any less guitar related, I ended up buying the Cube30 they had and ordering another to go with it – I’m not unhappy but I’m still struggling to rationlise how that happened. In my haste I failed to consider the fundamental fact that I have no experience of connecting two amps together.
